i think i know what the CGI piece he was talking about is because it says they are making a version of 'The Scarecrow and the Servant' by Philip Pullman but Pullman said he didnt want the scarecrow to be built in plasticene
Oh yeah. I read that on Wikipedia!![]()
good good ![]()
Thank you.![]()
yes yes yes there brilliant!!!!![]()
I agree!![]()
Philip Pullman is TOO PICKY! He's lucky that he is getting a film made at all, whether it is in plasticine, nicotine or bloomin' sticky back plastic
! If I were the Aards, I would not mince my words in telling him wot I fink!
(I'm not a fan of the said pulman bloke, as you have gathered). ![]()
Is he the one that wrote the Golden Compass??![]()
Yep, Fish! He's the one...
Hey, Fish I was about to ask that then I saw you had!![]()
what?![]()
About the Golden Compass. The first book out of The Nothern Lights, Subtle Knife and Ambyer Spyglass.![]()
it isn't released in bosnia...
REALLY?! GOD, IT'S THE BEST FILM EVER!!!![]()
I saw the film and I am almost done with the book. I liked them both, mostly. I'm going to read the Subtle Knife next. But I heard that some people were boycotting the film. Not sure why. Maybe Josephine might know...?![]()
Yes, me too. What does boycotting mean?
ok but answer me how to get that book can i find it on internet?![]()
No idea!![]()
You live in Bosnia, terminator987? Oops! Sorry...not supposed to ask that.
OK, let me rephrase that. What time zone is Bosnia in?
Where is Bosnia?![]()
There is a Golden Compass website. Just google "Golden Compass" and you will find it. You can create your own daemon there if you like. ![]()
It's cool, ain't it. My sister got a cat.![]()
Boycotting is where people refuse to buy something or go see a film for a reason important to them.
fish you mean what time is at bosnia now? well it is half to seven in evening of course![]()
Yeah....my daemon is a fox named Gabriel.![]()
oh good
Why would they be boycutting the Golden Compass?![]()
I don't know - but maybe Josephine will know, since she said she didn't like the author.![]()
Does she not like him?![]()
That's what I THOUGHT she said....her comment was she didn't think much of the Pullman bloke. But I don't know why she would not like him or why people boycott his movie.
OK, everybody! Here is the skinny re the reason why Philip Pullman's books and film have been boycotted.
Philip Pullman's books offended many people long before the film "The Golden Compass" was released because of Mr Pullman's anti-religion views, especially when they have been expressed in his books.
The ones he most offended felt that he went a step too far, especially with Christians and, moreso, Roman Catholics.
(Philip Pullman is a committed atheist i.e. someone who does not believe in God, Allah, Buddha, Krishna etc. or indeed anything. He is a prominent member of The Secular Society.)
So, rather than burn his books in public or calls for his demise, people who have been deeply offended have boycotted his books and film etc. instead.
This is different from the case of JK Rowling and Harry Potter because Ms Rowling did not go out to offend or give any hidden meanings in her books. In literary history, many stories have involved witches and wizards, as you p'raps know...
Although I respect Philip Pullman as a great writer, his books are not my cup of tea. I enjoy many fantasy tales but his did not rock my socks.
Apart from that, I have read interviews he has given and he struck me as having a bit of an attitude - compared to many writers I have encountered in the past - indeed, some may well share his views on religion/beliefs but they had enough respect for those whose choice it is to follow a faith.
Fish, you are correct in your definition of boycott. It is named after a real person called Captain Boycott (no connection with cricket). If you look it up in the Oxford dictionary, it will give you all the details.
But that, folks, is what I have found out for you, based on newspaper reports and other sources. I hope this has helped you. ![]()
![]()
Thanks, Josephine - that does help LOTS!
I haven't picked up on any anti- religious stuff in the Golden Compass yet, but perhaps they are expressed more in the next books in the series. I think we should respect each other's beliefs - and disbeliefs, even. ![]()
bye i saw all posts in Mark The Shark & Terminator discussion now bye...![]()

Yes, thanks, Josephine. I loved the Golden Compass film (especially the Polar bear fight scene between Iorek Burnison and Iofur Raknison) but offending other people's beliefs is just inappropriate. I am nearly half way through reading the Northern Lights and so far it's good. No wait, TEMRINATOR DON'T GO FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!!
i won't haha
CAN ANY1 TELL ME HOW TO DELETE MY ACCOUNT I WANT TO DELETE IT!!!!!!![]()
![]()
![]()
NO! NO! PLEASE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON'T!!!!!!!
Glad to have cleared things up for you all re Philip Pullman.
OH, FOR THE LOVE OF ETHEL, terminator987!!!! Get a grip!!! You are beginning to sound like that song by The Clash:
"Should I stay or should I goooooooooo"
cue air guitar.
It's make your mind up time!!!! Tick, tick, tick...
Good one, Josephine!![]()
