Greetings, friends and fellow fishies!

I have a burning ambition to be a voice on an animated film... how I envy those people on "Creature Comforts" who lend their voices to those lovely Aardman animals!

What about you, guys and gals??

squigly Posted: Jun 19th 2008

sockeye!!!! We've been missing you around here lately.

I have an idea...why don't you record your voice to some creature comforts clips etc. and post it to You Tube to let us listen. I would love to hear your voice!!!!!:D

As for me...well, I don't like how I sound so...nyat, not me.;)

cinders1 Posted: Jun 19th 2008

i love your posts josephine|-) but im afraid i have already tried it on one of contys animations!!! and its awfull i sound just like a west country farmers wife!!! uurgghhh!!! the aards would love it probably, but oooohhhh did it make me cringe:O

so the answer to your question is, yes i would do it but only if noone knew it was me!!!!;)

Josephine Posted: Jun 19th 2008

Thanks, squigly and cinders1! As always, you are very, very kind!

Squigly, I'll consider YouTube... it will take some time to find a suitable animal (Ah! I could get my best friend - a man - to do Captain Cuddlepuss and I could do Trixie!). People have told me I a voice for radio(and perhaps a face for it, too!!!!) way back when I was a telephone operator...

Again, my absences - I've had to do a difficult task over the past few days and sneak on here when there is a free minute...I'd LOVE more free minutes!

Oh, cinders1, my ole flower! Different accents make the world go round - if we all sound like Home Counties (that is, London and the South East) it would not be a true representation of the UK (why do some Americans call the UK LONDON??? Just curious...).

Duchamp42 Posted: Jun 19th 2008

Sadly Josephine, American public education is a frightening and inaccurate experience. Some of them think "Europe" is the name of a single country. They probably think London is a country, too.
Heck, some people seem to think Texas is a country.

Most on the east coast don't realize that New Mexico is a state, either. :(

Josephine Posted: Jun 19th 2008

Oh, eckypeck, Duchamp42!

I guess that when we in the Old World say "America" to anyone, we mean the United States but it's a continent i.e. North America, South America etc. like Europe that's made up of completely different countries.

It's a difficult thing to get one's head around at the moment with different places voting to break away from countries in Europe. Little do we realise that this is quite normal but a map maker's nightmare!

Harry Posted: Jun 19th 2008

Josiphene have you seen my new thread on Film Production Blog, its got my model there!

Fish Posted: Jun 19th 2008

They don't seem to teach much geography in the states. People who live on the east coast think Ohio is the "midwest". It's a hoot because I live about 600 miles west of Ohio and we are in the middle of the continent.

Duchamp42 Posted: Jun 19th 2008

I'm not much of an exception LOL. I'm ok with US geography, but everywhere else is just a mash of letters and dotted lines.

I find that sometimes people I talk to from the UK don't grasp the sheer size of the US. Nobody seems to know about Albuquerque, except from Bugs Bunny cartoons. Someone told me last week that they thought it was a made up place lol.

Duchamp42 Posted: Jun 19th 2008

(and more on topic of the post - I wish I had the kind of voice that could be recorded. But instead its nerdy and obnoxious.)

Fish Posted: Jun 19th 2008

I like your avatar, Duchamp42! :) It is subtle....you have to think a bit to realize that is Wallace peaking at you! :D

Josephine Posted: Jun 20th 2008

I'll have a look, Harry! Don't worry, pet! ;)

Great. just seen it. mines the same name as i have on here Ursrut .

gromitlove Posted: Jun 21st 2008

People always find their own voices to sound thin and nasal in recording-- because your voice vibrates your whole head, adding magnificent resonance, deep tones and overtones that don't travel well through the air, the microphone circuits, onto the recording and back out again into the air to your ear. Oh dear, here I go again...:-(|)

squigly Posted: Jun 21st 2008

Fish, I used YouTube to find out what a song sounded like. For example, when sockeye talked about a song from the 70's by a British pop singer, I searched for it on YouTube. You don't need an account to do that. But to comment on videos like Conty's Aardman experience or discus throw, you have to sign up. You can also use your account to save your favorite videos.

gromitlove, that was very interesting. Thank you for sharing.

gromitlove Posted: Jun 22nd 2008

Squigly, thank you too, as I usually shut down a thread quicker than that padlock symbol!:O;)

Fish Posted: Jun 22nd 2008

Shut a thread down....how, gromitlove?

squigly Posted: Jun 23rd 2008

i haven't noticed.

Josephine Posted: Jun 23rd 2008

Sorry to disappoint you, dearest friends, but I haven't got a YouTube account at present... actually, I'd feel more comfortable if there was one just for voices, or else I'd have to hide behind my cuddly fish or my hot water bottle cover...

gromitlove - well done, you, for your insight into voices and microphones and you are so correct!!! I have just about got microphones down to a fine art - it's a skill in itself, whether you are doing Terry Wogan impressions at the BBC or at the school assembly.
