try the wallace and gromit modelling kit. (you may find it in toys r us or something like that) it has plasticine and a book on how to make them and tools.

I think best is most big craft stores, i got mine from hobbycraft 2pounds25p

straight from the supplier who makes it Newclay

I'm sure Aardman use a special mix of different plastcines.
Lewis Newplast and Van Aken among them.

I go on Chromacolour too its great. Aardman do get it straight from Newclay products. i beleive they mix different colours together to get a specific shade.
