TIPS:if your short of one colour of clay, roll it between your hands ,and mix two primary colours together, say green and blue to make dark green you can do this when you want to experryment8)

katie Aardman Staff Posted: Sep 18th 2007

hi eddie, to upload your movie to our competition you will need to add it to YouTube first (its fairly quick and easy to create an account) Once you have done this go to our video entry page and enter the URL of your YouTube video. Hope that helps

jills Posted: Oct 6th 2007

A few days ago I didn't have any intention of modelling. I have a few creation ideas that I'm working on, though, and I went to the craft shop for supplies today, and saw that plasticine was half price. That, plus all the models made by cool people here on the forum have inspired me to try it out. Can't wait to get started! I expect a little disappointment at first, but still, it must be fun.

connor gorman Posted: Oct 7th 2007

modelmaker93 your film does work it was good but needed to be a bit longer

jills Posted: Oct 7th 2007

I like your movie, Modelmaker93! :)

I'm sorry I don't have any tips, I'm a beginner. I made my first Gromit yesterday. I liked it a lot, so I'm going to try to make other things. I know this is a simple question, but how tall should I make W&G and the others? Just do it by sight? I'm not ready for the Creations page, but I'm including a pic so you can see what I did so far. I needed a ring holder, so I had Gromit balance them in different actions (sorry I don't know the lingo). I need to mix the colour better and make the lighting the same. Here's one scene:

katie Aardman Staff Posted: Oct 8th 2007

Wow that's a brilliant start, jills! I think this is ready for the competition, but I look forward to seeing what you make next!

jills Posted: Oct 8th 2007

Did you make any other shorts, Modelmaker93? How long did it take you to do True Love?

(Thank you, katie, that's nice of you) :)

conty Posted: Oct 8th 2007

great job jill, why dont you enter it? its fab for a first model, conor

conty Posted: Oct 8th 2007

your question jills about how tall to do your models, i dont think it really matters, my last model was 10 inches (growbag) but i am trying to make them about the same size as aardman, i think if it looks good to the eye is more important, conor

jills Posted: Oct 8th 2007

Thanks for the tip, Conty. Mr. Growbag was awesome; I had no idea he was that tall! :O

I am trying to do a better Gromit because I realized that I only gave him three fingers on his front paws.. how silly

jordan Posted: Oct 11th 2007

im still here to help

bigballbubblehead Posted: Oct 21st 2007

your vids are nice just try making like a set or something cos doing it in front of a keyboard is a bit bland lol. i just got bit of blue card and stuck it in a corner on a wall and did it there lol it works just as well

purple and brown Posted: Feb 29th 2008

i want to be a model maker at aardman to

lmlm6819 Posted: Jul 16th 2008

if ur using plasticine for ur models a good tip to get them smooth is to use white spirit, this sort of melts the plasticine a little and makes it loads easier to get a really top notch finish. hope thats of help to people, i no it helps me loads.
also a really good thing to have is a rubber tipped paint brush, this kind of doubles as ur finger wen smoothing, but can get into places ur finger cannot.u can usually buy these in any good craft shop that sells specialist painting products.

Modelmaker93 Posted: Jul 31st 2008

hi this was ages a go my animations and models are way smoother and realistic now:D
