Hi, me again. I was wondering if anyone knows about any CGI softwares that I could use to maybe make my first film a bit advanced. If so, could you state the name, price and where to buy them? Thank you!

conty Posted: Dec 9th 2007

mark the shark, ive put the hd stopmotion 6 on my christmas list, its new and was developed with aardman, but its £430.00 plus you have to add vat on top of that price, so not much change from £600.00 but i dont know if you can do any cgi on it, there is one graded higher than the one im hopefully getting but its £1000. again before vat, maybe look it up at to see if it does, it was only released last week good luck;)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 9th 2007

Thanks, Conty. Your'e always a lot of help!

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 15th 2007

At least Conty's decent enough!:'(

conty Posted: Dec 15th 2007

probably because its a specialist thing that your asking, you would be better off asking aardman or another company that have a cgi department and ask them direct,
i would love to have a go at cgi, but i think i need to spend alot of time first on learning about animation, something i will get into in the future, as they say one step at a time;)

Mark the shark the top cgi software you can use is Maya version 8 or above, if you are in to gaming type graphics then 3D Studio Max (which I think is running at version) 8 or above both these are made by Autodesk.

Warning the above software packages are extremely expensive but very good.

You maybe lucky to be able to pick up earlier versions from ebay.

Another couple of cgi software packages you might consider are Daz Bryce 5.5 and Poser 7, Bryce is for landscapes and poser is for human or animal type characters (both have pre-set models to work with).

I am nearly a 100 per cent sure Maya is the software that a certain company called Aardmans use.

I hope this helps

cavor while your here, you were saying about your work place and your work mates bench being raised, what do you do? and also the rally that you made the wrong trousers for was it a caravan rally per chance? :D

cavor Posted: Dec 16th 2007

conty my trade is carpentry & joinery and I work for a luxury motor yacht company making interior furnishings & furniture.

Yes it was a caravan rally, so if you are ever stuck behind a caravan it could be me, so in advance sorry for the hold up, its a good excuse to be out and about with your friends.

PS I didn't make my caravan not like Nick Parks dad, he must have had some fun with that.:D

conty Posted: Dec 16th 2007

ooohhh we're in the caravan club too!!! it could be us your stuck behind!!!, we go away alot in our van with a crowd of us, its always a laugh, i know mum has just booked swanage for easter with the caravan club, you never know i might get to meet you one day, dont suppose i will reconise you though if your not wearing yer wrong trousers!!! he he:D

if you make interiors for boats have you done up your caravan, like pimp my ride? now that would be cool!!!:D

cavor Posted: Dec 16th 2007

No I haven't had to do up this caravan its fairly new but I had a cheap caravan years ago that had a leaky roof, which I had to fully re-furnish, ceiling an all.

Now it would be more cool to have an old caravan put fake rivets on the outside, windows round like port holes then paint it orange and decorate it in the inside like Wallace’s rocket with floral wallpaper nice exposed orange girders with rivets!

conty Posted: Dec 17th 2007

ooohhh yeah!!! he he that would be funny, i think i might spot you then!!! especially if you wear your trousers too!!!

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 17th 2007

Wow, Cavor. You really do know a lot about CGI. Thanks for everything you mentioned. It should really help me!;)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 17th 2007

Does anyone know where Jleon is. Back a couple of months ago he made a really good CGI Wallace. And I haven't seen any of his work. He said he would post a Gromit soon, but I haven't seen it!:)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 21st 2007

Please, someone ELSE reply too. I need other people apart from those who are decent enough!!!:'(

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 23rd 2007

Hello, everyone. I think I'll use Maya because I've found a website where I can buy it. I think I need just basic info about Maya Fluid Effects and stuff like that. I've learned how to do animation, modelling, some dynamics (fire effects, fireworks etc.) and rendering. But I just haven't found Fluids and Cloth, fur and hair simulations and stuff. If anyone can answer that, it would be marvellous! Ta-ta for now! Merry Christmas!!!;)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 26th 2007

Oh, and does anyone know how to make explosions?:)

cavor Posted: Dec 26th 2007

Mark the shark a little while ago we had a thread about fire effects just found the link hope this helps :D

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 27th 2007

Thank you very much, Cavor! That helped a lot!:)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 27th 2007

Does anyone know about explosions. I've heard they must be quite hard to do. :)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 27th 2007

Anyone? Sorry I keep posting stuff. I'm just trying to get it to the top so that people will notice it.;)

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 28th 2007

Oh please don't make me beg about EXPLOSIONS!!! That's the worst topic to be begging about!!!:'(

Mark the shark Posted: Dec 29th 2007

Please help!:'(

sidmjam Posted: Apr 4th 2008

Anim8or is a free one, i downloaded it but can't figure out how to use it, i'm sure there will be tutorials online though

Nofby Posted: Apr 9th 2008

Dont sound so desperate and people will be more inclined to reason with you. ;)

You are looking for CGI software. Cavor mentioned the best. I keep saying this, but do your research! Type in CGI software in google, not that hard.8)

Gromitt Posted: Apr 24th 2008

Hi, im looking for some basic animation software, I don't need anyting to complicated, do you know of anything?

Nofby Posted: May 2nd 2008

Gromitt I have explained already in which clay is best for stop motion thread.

Mark the shark Posted: Jun 4th 2008

I've tried Anim8tor. I didn't get a hell of a clue of how to use it. I'm sticking to Maya, which I've got. ;)
