Wallace and Gromit are moving to a new home after creators Aardman Animation were given the go-ahead to build a £10 million headquarters.

The Oscar-winning studio will move to a three-storey complex next to its current dockside base in Bristol after the plans were approved by the city council.

It will almost double the number of staff currently working at the site from 110 to 200, as nearly all the company's employees are relocated to the new expanded development.
The news came just days after Aardman announced a lucrative film deal with Sony Pictures - rounding off a great week for the firm.

Aardman co-founder David Sproxton said it was an exciting time in the company's history.
"All this news comes through in a rush like waiting for a London red bus," he said.
"We've been working on the feature deal for about a year, and the planning for the building has gone on for even longer. Everything seems to be going very well. The Sony deal is huge and the creative support it will bring is great. And the building will mean everyone can be together at last and out of the Portakabins."

The building will boast its own "mini cinema" and could feature four wind turbines on the roof - providing up to 25 per cent of the site's energy needs.

Building work on the site is expected to begin next year...watch this space for photos and updates!

What do you think about it?

conty Posted: Sep 23rd 2007

Are you going to think about apprenticeships in two years? conors mum

shaunisgr8 Posted: Sep 28th 2007

Excellent! Especially for the four wind turbines that will provide a quarter of all energy needed. Will people be able to visit the new headquarters when it's finished?

I would love to visit the studios when they are finished. Fans help pay for the films you make, so I would encourage small tours (like the BBC TV studios does).:)

oh dear

Concrete frame manufacturer Febrey Ltd has collapsed, leaving numerous projects in the south-west of England searching for alternative suppliers.

Schemes which will now be looking to replace Febrey include Gleeds’ £8 million film facility in Bristol being built for Aardman Animation, responsible for movie hits Chicken Run and the Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit.

hope it gets sorted soon
