thespazicat Posted: Jul 20th 2010

oh and to make the episode more awsome, I GOT ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS! booyah!

thespazicat Posted: Aug 10th 2010

hello folks, me again with some good and some bad news.

The bad news is the haggis and neep re-boot has been cancelled. The good news is the haggis and neep re-boot has not been cancelled.

"BUT SPAZICAT! HOW DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE?" you ask.

As u all no haggis and neep is of course stopmotion animation, but the truth is i hate stop motion. Dont get me wrong, i love stop motion movies and shorts say like wallace and gromit or films like king kong, but i hate actually animating in this style. Because of my diagnosis of aspergers syndrome, i find it very stress ful when animating seprate frames at a time, hoping not to knock something out of the shot or even the camera on a tripod, the lighting heats the room far to hot even with a fan on or windows open.

I needed an alternative, i find it just too stressful to work like this. There was only one solution, cgi.

i know im going to be hated for doing this, especially what happend to most tv shows now turning cgi, but, i think its best suited for h and n. now, ican achive things that i can never do before 3 years ago. for the past weeks i have been practacing the basics of 3ds max such as modeling and animating and i actually enjoy it more than stopmotion. it also gives me an advantage for my future at grays art college doing digital media which i wish to do when i leave school.

But what of the models? all those ball joint armatures made for nothing! well, they are getting used in a video i have been keeping secret for months thats half way in production. Its the haggis and neep characters playing the song thunderstruck by acdc. The animation is actually animated and directed by my dad, "spazicats pa". The animation is a tribute to acdc and what im going to call the final fairwell to the clay haggis and neep.

that is all for now

Clay Fighter Posted: Aug 11th 2010

WOW!
Thats a shock!
I wonrt hate you for doing a CGI animation, as I enjoy them, although I do not like shows i grew up with being made into bad CGI ;)
I think if its less stressfult o you, then thats great, just do what you are comfortable with.
Oooh, i look forward to seeing the ACDC tribute, will you post into the creations?

thespazicat Posted: Aug 11th 2010

thanks for the comment, no, im not going to be posting the acdc tribute on the site as i am not involved asides from creating the characters, its my dads personal project and i let him borrow h&n

thespazicat Posted: Aug 11th 2010

oh heres haggis' model coming along

Ursrut Posted: Aug 11th 2010

Awesome Spazicat- Whatever suits you best, we're all here to support, Animation is animation and i look forward to seeing future animations.

thetopbun Posted: Aug 11th 2010

Spazi what program are you using...? I could help you as I am now a CGI nerd working on a game as Senior Animator and working on my showreel now! :P

thespazicat Posted: Aug 11th 2010

im using 3ds max 2010 topbun. great to hear u also taking an intrest on computer generated imagrey, how ever so far im just following tutorials on how to model, rig, skin and animate so for now i may not need ur help just now but i will keep the thought in mind if i need some advice.

Are u going to upload ur showreel on u tube, i would be interested on seeing it

Clay Fighter Posted: Aug 12th 2010

Well, maybe you could give us a youtube link once your Dad finishes?

thespazicat Posted: Aug 12th 2010

sure cf

thetopbun Posted: Aug 14th 2010

Argh! I only use Blender, How do you have the money to get 3DS Max?! I could still animate, if you sent your model to me, I could rig it in blender, animate etc. and then export it and you could put it in the film.

thespazicat Posted: Aug 21st 2010

@ topbun- actually, max was an x mas present i never used until now due to me being all against the whole "cgi" thing when i started animating. i was young.

btw, i had a go at blender to see what it was like for a free programme. Now to be fair, it is a good free download with alot of capabilities that can produce high quality animations almost pixar likw (eg big buck bunny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcBECFLXmuc). However, the interface to me is a mess and all over the place and is a tad more complicated than max. thats just my opinion, no offence. still, i do still wish to see ur demo reel if thats ok.

anyhow. as u can see by the image above i had started work on the new cgi haggis, however, it seems a bit decapatated. so for the past few weeks i have been experimenting techniuqes on head modeling. it was a pain in the bum. However in the end i came up with a few different designed heads. however they looked pretty naft and nothing like it was supposed to. a few weeks later i finally make something almost like his clay model counter part. this is the final low poly result, hope u like it.

Clay Fighter Posted: Aug 21st 2010

It seems to be piecing together!

Ursrut Posted: Aug 22nd 2010

Ha ha that is awesome!

crackingtoast Posted: Aug 22nd 2010

Don't worry about switching to CGI. It doesn't ruin it. I like the look of how the CGI Haggis are coming on. Looking really cool and stylized.

Jamie Gomersall Posted: Aug 22nd 2010

Can't wait to see the finished thing CF. During by absence from the sight, I sure have missed the updates on the Haggis and Neep series :) Keep up the good job.

crackingtoast Posted: Aug 22nd 2010

Um...It's Spaz,not CF.

thespazicat Posted: Aug 22nd 2010

thank u ct, i try to keep my characters as close to my drawings as possible. i know i sed in the post above that this was the final low poly of haggis, however this is only a prototype of what the final version of haggis. im working on the proper head right now.

@ jamie, thanks for miss spelling my name as cf, im sure he'd be thrilled to be the "new creator of h&n". jks, but im glad to hear your intrested on the updates.

Jamie Gomersall Posted: Aug 23rd 2010

Oh, Im sorry, Spaz. Still a bit jetlagged :-(

Clay Fighter Posted: Aug 23rd 2010

WOOHOO!
I am soo talented!
I am amazing...oh wait.,..it was a typo..
lol

thetopbun Posted: Aug 23rd 2010

Yeh blender to me was horrible when I started and I am sure when I move over to Max or Maya it will be horrible, but I am used to the interface now! :D

Jamie Gomersall Posted: Aug 24th 2010

Lol CF :)

thespazicat Posted: Nov 25th 2010

hello everyone, i have returned once again to this little old site, but where have i been? thats the question? well, the truth is, i just hardly use this site as much as i did 1 or 2 years ago. I dont just constantly go on the internet all the time like its a drug, i do have a life. I have been just too busy with my standard grade prelim exams at school, particulary my art computing and graphics, i recently actually got a girlfriend whom i love so much and been busy hanging around with her and all this has basically been dragging me away from sites such as w&g and my animations. However, i am starting to get back iinto gear with 3d animation practice, as i am aware i need it for something like college or uni.

Now, haggis and neep, what about them? the 3d models above was a test to see if i can achive such characters like haggis, meaning they were very primitive. I am currently learning off tutorials proper modeling, skinning, uv maps, rigging, the lot, so i can gain more experiance than the little i have, the haggis and neep remake project however has been put on hold because of this AND also that i have too many projects in mind, but i dunno for how long it will be on hold for, but it will be a really long time, either that, or it will be cancelled.

I love 3d modleing, its more fun than sculpting out of clay or plasticene with less stress, however, its learning thats the problem, and i still have a long way to go :L

thats all i have to say, peace out, -spaz

thespazicat Posted: Jan 8th 2011

Ok first off, ino its late but merry xams and happy new year, im back with once again another update from a thread that was hardly touched last time.

first off, i mentioned before of my father creating a music video for thunderstruck, well incase ur curious, the animation is finished. We both decided the clay models were not going to work due to all of the moving parts such as guitars, singing and drums, so my dad created it in i-clone instead, the characters heads (except jesus) were created by me in 3ds max, and the bodys and additional features such as clothes and eyes were created by my dad. links here :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgUuahAgo6I&feature=bulletin this however will not be what the actual first episode will look like after using 3ds max, the models will look better and more like the drawings, this was just my dad making it for fun

secondly, i also mentioned before that this will be the last ever apperance of the clay haggis and neep, however, i would like to refrase that. This is the last appearance of the actual clay designs which i created 2 years ago aswell as the stop motion. thats right, they are being redesigned for a couple of reasons:

1. people usually confuse them to be humans and not aliens
2. they looked almost like racoons
3.this was me 2 years ago, i have gotten better at drawing since then
4. i never like their faces
5. they dont look alien enough

in the end, after constant sketchs, this is the final design on which im happy with, please give your opinion on the new design, thanks for reading

-spaz

Clay Fighter Posted: Jan 8th 2011

that was great!
love a bit of AC DC

thespazicat Posted: Jan 9th 2011

thanks cf

Chocachoc Posted: Jan 10th 2011

Spazicat! Hello there! Nice to see you again! I also had a long break from this website or any animation at all for about 2 years. Nice to see you back, and I like that you are redesigning the characters. I did like them before, but I do agree with all of the reasons you gave. I like the new design and I am really surprised with how good the ACDC music video is! You have come a long way since the last time I saw you!

Purple&Brown Posted: Jan 10th 2011

Great to see you back! I loved the music video, looked amazing. And also really like the designs, they look much more alien like indeed |-)

thespazicat Posted: Jan 10th 2011

thanks very much everyone, though it should be my father who should get cred for the acdc thing, i only leant him the characters.

other than that, im glad u both like the redesigns

666joshy666 Posted: Jan 10th 2011

A warm welcome from me as well TS! I was away for over year until about 2 weeks ago so quite a few of us have been on a break |-)

Chocachoc Posted: Jan 11th 2011
