MTS...I had a hard time changing my avatar too.
I had the same one as fish and noticed that we were posting messages on the same board so I wanted to change it to something else so as not to appear that I was copying him or something. But it wouldn't let me change it. Kept deleting the old avatar, updating to the new one, and then the old avatar would come back. Very frustrating! 
Tried it again a bit later and it worked. Seems it needs some time to refresh or something.
