Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park will see his famous plasticine characters in a new light when he visits Preston's entry into this year's Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Flower Show at Tatton Park on Thursday 19th July.

The council's gardeners have dreamt up a show-stopping tribute to the Preston-born animator, recreating the famous plasticine duo using more than 2,000 plants. The imaginative 3D display features papier-mâché models of Wallace and Gromit depicted in a bedroom scene, with Gromit blasting into the air on a rocket.

It also has a novelty factor in the form of a row of picture frames hanging up that people can put their faces through and have their photograph taken.

The bed will take the council's horticulture team three days to build on site at Tatton Park and will be open to the public from Wednesday 18 until Sunday 22 July.

Four times Oscar winner Nick Park, of Aardman Animations, is also an honorary freeman of the city. During his visit, he will meet Mayor of Preston Councillor Christine Abram and council gardeners Alan Rampling and Tony Lewis who created the unique flowerbed.

Mayor of Preston Councillor Christine Abram said:
"Wallace and Gromit are synonymous with Preston and I'm delighted that Nick Park will be seeing our interpretation of his characters for himself - I just hope he likes it!"

Nick Park said:
"I was surprised and excited to hear that the gardeners at Preston City Council had chosen to theme their Tatton Show entry on my characters and am very much looking forward to seeing the finished display."
