because in animation, you don't have to make things realistic. if you had to make things realistic, there'd be no Creature Comforts, Pirates, Wallace & Gromit, Nightmare Before Christmas, and most animation films ever

in the world of imagination in general u dont have to make things realistic, if they where, the word imagination wount even exist!

Gromit yelps when his collar is yanked in "The Wrong Trousers". He also growls at the penguin at one point. He also loudly sobs in "A Close Shave".

Some dogs don't bark, either because of their breed (Basenji breed, for instance) or because they just don't  (I once met someone with a Husky dog that never barked).
