You are just another mortal facing what my Irish grandmother used to call the "animosity of the inanimate". Sooner or later you will be allowed to change from a donkey into a human being again. 
Didn't Shakespeare write a play about a situation like this???
Rastophulus, have you tried hitting the F5 key to refresh your screen after selecting your new avatar? I used to have trouble with the image switching too until I read one of Katie's comments about refreshing the screen. Give it a try, or remain a Jack-ey.
Hi Rastophulus! I was burning with anger when I saw this because I thought some eejit had written this about you!!! But, oohhh, I'm relieved. Anyway, that has happened to me several times. all you have to do is go onto the web again (refresh the page) and that should be it. But you have to delete the old one.
I worked out how to change it at last, but now I've put some 'gromit' eyes on it I think he looks cute! I might stay as a donkey aftr all!

Hi Sharkie! I was thinking of doing an animated avatar too but didn't know if it was allowed. I guess it is. You can find free avatars on the web. You should try rastophulus' suggestion of googling "animated gifs" or "Potter Pals" or just "avatars".

I did try the animated gifs thing but I didn't seem to remember to try it after I downloaded it.

wow rastophulus i love what youve done to contys model its fab,(sharkies avatar) ive tried to save it, but it will only save as a picture, i cant get it to wave like youve got it to do!!! can you help please, what do i need to do?

Same thing happened to me. So I did a little experiment and the following seems to work: First, instead of clicking on the link then right clicking the picture, you need to right click on the link itself. A menu pops up. Click on "save target as" and then you can save the animated icon to your computer. Just make sure it's a gif file and not bmp. Hope it works for you!

hey thanks squigly that worked, ive just put it on contys deviantart account as his avartar, hes been locked away now for about 3 hours up in his little studio, and his creation that hes working on is looking rather good
I've had a cool idea! What about making mini-animations as avatars!!! Like tiny films! WOW!

rastophulus, you should give it a try and see if a mini animation will work as an avatar. btw...how did you animate the avatar? Did you use photoshop?
nope only the head is done, and an armature, i just ran up to see, and there is a peice of paper stuck to it PLEASE DONT TOUCH hehe and his plans are written up on his white board, love im his go at lip sync went very well (but he wont let me post it!!) but his plans say hes going to lip sync the new model

Glad you like it! There's this part of photoshop called Imageready that makes it really easy to animate gifs.
For 'minimations' (good word huh? ) I'm trying to think of a story (with not many different frames) that can repeat over and over...
I've got one idea but it's a bit tricky!
How about a W & G character who bumps into a wall, falls down on his bum, gets up and walks through the wall only to bump into another wall, falls on his bum, gets up etc. etc. It just keeps looping....or something similar to that?
